About Author

Dr. Harise Stein is a board-certified ob/gyn, and an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Stanford University Medical Center.

At Stanford she is the founder and co-chair of the Stanford Medical Center Family Abuse Prevention Council, which has been involved with patient abuse screening, policy, staff education, and patient materials.

In addition, she has served as county commissioner and chair of the Medical Committee of the Santa Clara County Domestic Violence Council. In this role she began to create these summaries as a way for council members and their departments to keep up with abuse research.

Besides authoring a chapter on "Abuse and Violence Against Women" for the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology Precis series, she is a frequent invited educator/speaker on the health effects of abuse, and abuse recognition and management in the medical setting.

This research summary is sent out to a listserve of almost 800 clinicians, researchers, advocates, community leaders, court and law enforcement personnel, and government policy makers.
